Life on the road was hard for Jeremy Schwartz, so in mid-2009, he left the band, leaving Spencer as the only original band member, so he recruited members of disbanded post-hardcore group Remember Tomorrow. In 2007, the group released the extended play (EP) “The Burning” and began touring. In 2004, the band changed its name to ‘Ice Nine Kills’, and two years later, they released their debut album “Last Chance to Make Amends”. Later, Grant Newsted, a drummer, and Hobie Boeschentei, a bassist, joined Spencer and Jeremy, and this was the band’s first set. In 2000, they formed the band Ice Nine, the name derived from the fictional substance ‘ice nine’ featured in the novel “Cat’s Cradle” written by Kurt Vonnegut.
While he was in the Tower School, Spencer met his future co-founding bandmate, Jeremy Shwartz, who also had an interest in horror movies. Speaking of his educational background, he attended schools in his hometown, the Tower School and then Swampscott High School, from which he matriculated in 2003, then Spencer enrolled at Suffolk University, from where he obtained his BA degree. Spencer had an interest in horror movies from an early age, and his other passion was musical theater, which had an impact on most of his band’s songs.
